Hotel data

I just lifted this off  an Lj post....

Azkatraz will be in the San Francisco Parc55 hotel.

Parking Rates are $44 + 14% tax per night for a regular size car.

Its $169 a night but they have a large quanity of rooms with king beds, so doubles will go fast.

They also note that it's the same price for a room with 2 people as it is for 4 people. BE SURE to select that you have 4 people in your room, as the hotel has ALOT of 1 king bed rooms, and you don't want to be stuck with one of those.

Also, other cons were held there and left this hotel for a reason  I am monitoring the Lj to see what those issues are.

At this point, we may need to enlist a local and see if there are alternative hotels nearby ala what we  did for Phoenix Rising.

Sounds fine with me. How are you doing babe? Good I hope. I am missing the 107 degree weather there as it is friggin freezing here.

Boys get back tomorrow. Have to drop Jen to the airport as she is flying out to Brisbane for the Royal (dog showing).

Loves you and misses you terribly.

Love Sonia :)

Here's the link to the Official Azkatraz Website:

Not too promising, so far, but it's early yet. I'm all for staying in a different hotel and toddling over to the con hotel.

I'll go wherever you think is best. So far, not so good, but that'll change hopefully. :)

I've been to San Francisco many times, and have stayed near that area...the hotel rooms are TINY. I'm considering staying at Parc55 just because it is convenient and actually pretty affordable for SF. BUT...I'm willing to consider a nearby hotel. There are so many hotels in that area. It is possible to get a 2.5 to 4-star hotels for about $100-$150 a night.

BUT, the problem with San Francisco hotels is that if you plan on squeezing people into the room...there is not enough floor space for many non-suite rooms to accommodate air mattresses. The rooms are generally quite tight.

Thanks for the data. Can you scope out what is nearby?
Aug. 15th, 2008 01:49 am (UTC)
Nah, I don't live there :D I live about 6 hours away in Long Beach and Los Angeles. But I have friends who are in that area. I'll ask around.

I did a search on Google and found out that Hotel Fusion is across the street and about half a block away from Parc55. I've stayed at Hotel Fusion before, and had a good experience there. It is located right next to a very busy shopping/theater area, and is very safe to walk around, even at night. However, if you pass that area, about two blocks, is the Tenderloin district, and that's really not that safe at night. But during the day is fine.

We've left our car in a parking garage there for very cheap. So we might do that again. But we'll see...I think if we just walked in San Fran and didn't drive much, we might actually leave the car at a BART station and then take the train in. There's a BART station near Union Square.

I also did a Hotwire search (www.hotwire.com) for San Francisco, and for Union Square West (which is where Parc55 is located), there are 2-star hotels for as low as $86 a night.

I used Hotwire to book our Portus hotel room, which turned out to be the Doubletree hotel right next to the Hilton, for only $75 a night. I recommend using Hotwire because you can get hotels a lot cheaper. However, if you need to be at a certain place, then Hotwire is not a good site to use, because it'll only tell you where the hotel is located within a 10 block (or so) area, and you won't find out the name of the hotel until after you book it.

The Parc55 looks to be a in pretty busy area. I know (from memory) that there's a big shopping area/theater area near it, about two blocks away or so. So we won't have any trouble finding a place to eat, which was a problem (for me at least) at Portus. There's also several hotels nearby, including Powell Hotel, Hotel Nikko, and Hotel Union Square.

Parc55 is also about one block and a half from the Powell BART, for anyone taking the train. It is also about 1.5 blocks away from a shopping center, Westfield San Francisco Centre, as well as 1 block away from Hallide Plaza.

I have nothing better to do and I have a stack of books from the Library on San Fran, I'll pull an all nighter and see what i can find;) How far are you willing to walk?

Aug. 15th, 2008 01:24 am (UTC)
One two city blocks, and in Sanfran that's not that big. At Portus we were actiually closer to the events than the folks staying in the Anatole. LOL

If I stay at the Parc I will get one kingsize room. I may have hubby with me. I dont know yet.

My hubby was talking about going too, I think I've managed to talk him out of it *crosses fingers*.

If you know anyone that needs room mates, let me know. It'll just be hayley and I this time.

I'll have a list by tomorrow.

Aug. 15th, 2008 01:44 am (UTC)
looks like mine is going to go. Thats a lot of costuming between now and then.

Aug. 15th, 2008 01:56 am (UTC)
I am definitely buying that goat if your hubby is going as Albus *G*

I know how you feel, I have to get costumes for Hayley. She wants moaning myrtle and Pansy. I'll get Spidermoth to make her Myrtle robes and just buy her Slytherin ones. I don't have a clue what she'll wear for the ball. I want to go as school Luna, and Safari luna (JKR interview). Although I'm not sure if safari Luna is a stupid idea or not. Alberforth and a goat, maybe. If the dress isn't to expensive, I'd love to go as the grey Lady for the ball. I had no idea how addictive this would be!

I may take you up onthe mask offer with ahlloween rollign around. Mine bit the dust, it's stress cracking and wont make it through another con.
Aug. 15th, 2008 02:12 am (UTC)
Pick a design and send it *G* I'll send the link if you don't have it. Full or half mask? Black on Grey or Grey on Black? It's nice to have something to do now that the brats are back in school.
Aug. 15th, 2008 02:30 am (UTC)
full mask- back with silver/grey add streaming tears and make the face heartbroken and sad.
Aug. 15th, 2008 12:55 am (UTC)
And because I'm nosey, I pulled the write-up on the hotel from Yahoomaps:

If anything, they *do* have suites...

thanks!! =)

Hugs. I am dead. I have 100 emails!

I need to look at this data later.

can you cross post the nosepickers here as a post?
Aug. 15th, 2008 03:04 am (UTC)
Sure, I can do it before I fall into my drug-induced coma tonight.

on Amazon:

also on Amazon (a different seller):

and on ebay:

(these rings are stainless steel, rather than pewter. I htin kmine is stainless steel).

and just run a search for "armour" or "armor" rings.

I grew up (when in the U.S.) in the bay area. You may want to look at the Intercontinental San Francisco. Close by, larger rooms, better service, comparable pricing.
Aug. 15th, 2008 01:38 am (UTC)
I love you.
Aug. 15th, 2008 04:09 pm (UTC)
Thanks for this info-you're so far ahead of me on the planning already!
Aug. 15th, 2008 04:39 pm (UTC)
I swiped it from someone else. If we don't plan we get screwed...
Aug. 15th, 2008 04:55 pm (UTC)
so true. I'm planning to drive up from LA so I'm going to look for somewhere close with a better price for parking.
If I find anything worth merit I'll share it here :)
Aug. 15th, 2008 08:42 pm (UTC)
Wow! I'm willing to sleep on a park bench just to save money. LOL!
